Jerry’s blog for January 2023 New to writing a blog I no doubt have a lot to learn. Today I’ll share some thoughts I had about a situation a homeowner had with their new house. At a recent party my friend told me his daughter was having frost accumulate on her bedroom wall during the last cold spell. She called her house builder and he gave her the names of the subcontractor that insulated her house. Her meeting with the insulator went as such. He came out and looked at the situation and said it will cost $1000 to fix it. He said, “it must have been missed by his guys”. The homeowner asked the insulator why she should pay for it as she assumed her house was insulated properly when it was built. I have to agree with her. Since then the insulator no longer returns her calls. I do not know who built the house, but my feeling is its bull shit the home builder gave her the number of the sub. He built the house and was task with the job of making sure it was built correctly. In my mind the insulator works for the builder and it is the builder she should be calling. The insulator has no allegiance to the homeowner; his allegiance is to builder who will give him the next job. In my company we don’t always do it right, I know that’s blasphemy. When it does happen I don’t see it as the customer’s problem it is mine. They trusted me to take care of them and my crew and I don’t take that lightly. This attitude is why I pay to have my crew trained so there is less chance we make mistakes I have to pay to fix. Just my two cents, Jerry
